Getting Started
-
Alma is a daily check-in app that keeps your loved ones informed if something happens to you. Check in once a day to show you're okay. If you don't, the people who matter get notified — automatically. You can also share a small moment with your check-in, so staying connected doesn't only happen in emergencies.
-
Alma Moments is your private daily feed, shared with up to 30 people you've personally approved. When you check in, you can optionally post a moment — or just check in silently. If you miss your check-in, an automatic post appears in your friends' feed and they receive a notification the following day.
The idea is simple: the people in your circle stay passively aware of how you're doing. Not in a panicked, urgent way — more like a quiet background signal. A friend notices you haven't checked in for a day and sends a message. A parent sees you're active and feels reassured without needing to call. It's soft social awareness, not an emergency system. Alma Moments is free for everyone.
-
Alma Safety Net is a dedicated emergency alert system, available with Connect+. You assign up to 5 emergency contacts — these are specific people responsible for taking action if something goes wrong. The moment you miss a check-in, they are alerted immediately and directly via WhatsApp, Telegram, email or in the Alma App. They receive your last known location and health information if you've enabled those. One contact confirms you're safe, and the alerts stop.
This is designed for people who genuinely need a reliable safety layer: someone living alone, an elderly person, a solo hiker, a traveler. The alerts are immediate, direct, and treated as urgent. In the Alma App they can even override silent mode and send a loud alarm sound.
-
Think of it this way: Alma Moments is for everyday awareness among people who care about each other. Alma Safety Net is for emergencies. Both are built around the same daily check-in — but they serve very different purposes and reach very different people.
With Moments, your circle notices something seems off and can reach out. With Safety Net, your emergency contacts are alerted immediately and expected to act.
You can use just one, or both at the same time.
-
Because they do two very different things.
Your Alma Moments connections are friends and family who follow your daily feed. They see your posts, you see theirs, and they're notified the next day if you miss a check-in. They need to have the Alma app to be part of your circle.
Your emergency contacts (Connect+) are the people who get an immediate alert if you miss a check-in — via WhatsApp, Telegram, email or the Alma App. They don't need the app at all. They're not there to see your posts — they're there in case something actually goes wrong.
The same person can be both: a family member might follow your Alma Moments feed and also be your emergency contact. But they don't have to be. You might have close friends in your Moments circle and a neighbor or a local contact as your emergency contact. It's entirely up to you.
-
No. Alma Moments and the daily check-in are completely free. Connect+ is for people who need more than social awareness — dedicated emergency contacts, flexible check-in times, location sharing, and health data storage. You can start with the free version and upgrade whenever you need to.
Check-Ins
-
Tap the large button on the home screen during your active check-in window. That's it — your connections are informed you're okay.
-
Free plan: an automatic post appears in the Alma Moments feed of your friends, and they receive a notification the following day, if you didn’t activate your check-in again.
Alma Safety Net: your designated emergency contacts are alerted immediately through their chosen channel (WhatsApp, Telegram, email, or in-app).
-
Free plan: every day, 7:00–11:00 AM (your local time). With Connect+, you can set up to 3 windows per day — morning (7–11 AM), afternoon (12–4 PM), evening (5–9 PM) — configured independently for each day of the week. Change your schedule under Menu → Check-In Times.
-
Yes, with Connect+. You can activate up to 3 daily windows and choose which days each window applies to. Free plan is fixed to one morning window. Upgrade to Connect+ to unlock custom scheduling.
-
Make sure notifications are enabled for Alma in your phone's system settings. Also check that you haven't enabled Vacation Mode — when active, all reminders and alerts are paused. You can verify this on your home screen or under Settings.
-
Go to Menu → Settings → Check-In Settings → Vacation Mode and turn it on.
Free plan: this pauses check-ins until you manually turn it back off.
Connect+: you can also schedule a specific date range — check-ins resume automatically when you return.
Safety Net
-
Go to Menu → Emergency Contacts and tap "Create Invite Link." Forward the link via your chosen sharing method (SMS, WhatsApp, email — your choice), or let them scan the displayed QR code. They click the link, select how they want to be notified, and confirm. Once they verify, they're active.
-
No. They can receive alerts via WhatsApp, Telegram, or email — no app required. If they want to see your Alma Moments posts too, they can download the free app and connect with you there as well.
-
They receive your name and the fact that you missed a check-in. If you've enabled location sharing or health data storage, that information is included automatically. They also get a direct link to confirm they’re taking care of the alert, which stops further notifications to other contacts.
-
Your emergency contacts are notified one at a time, 15 minutes apart. The moment any one of them confirms you're safe, the remaining contacts are not notified. If nobody responds, a second round of notifications goes out after 90 minutes — working through your contacts in the same order again.
-
Go to Menu → Emergency Contacts and drag and drop your contacts into the order you want. The alarm chain always follows this order — the first contact on the list is notified first.
-
Remove the contact and send them a new invite link.
-
Go to Menu → Emergency Contacts, tap on the delete symbol next to the contact. They'll no longer receive alerts.
-
This shows everyone who has assigned you as their emergency contact. You can see their name and profile and revoke your consent at any time if you no longer want to receive their alerts.
Alma Moments
-
In Alma Moments, tap on “Friends” on the top right, find the person by name, and send a connection request. They need to accept before either of you can see each other's posts. Both sides must approve — it's always mutual.
If you don’t find them, you can send them an invite to Alma.
-
After tapping the check-in button, you'll be prompted to add a moment — a photo, video, or short text. This is entirely optional. Tap "Skip" to check in without posting anything.
-
One of your connections didn't check in during their window. Alma posted this automatically so you're aware. There's no emergency action needed — just reach out if you're concerned. You can tap "You're on my mind" to send them a quick nudge.
-
A one-tap way to let a connection know you're thinking of them. It sends them a notification — no post is created, nothing is public. Just a small moment of connection.
-
By design. Alma Moments is your inner circle, not a social network. Keeping it to 30 means every post is from someone you actually care about.
-
Yes, if you have Connect+ active as your safety mechanism. Go to Settings → Alma Moments and disable it. You can't disable both Alma Moments and the Safety Net at the same time — at least one safety layer needs to be active.
