Alma Is Free for Ukraine and Anyone Who Can't Afford It

Alma has been growing every day, and we’ve been thinking about what that growth should mean beyond the app itself. We started Alma because we believe people should know their loved ones are safe, and that everyone deserves a safety net they can actually use. That belief doesn’t stop at a price tag.

So we’re making two changes to how Alma works.

Alma is free in Ukraine

Everyone in Ukraine can use Alma’s Safety Net for free, for as long as the war lasts. No trial period, no card details, no catch. Just download the app and it’s already unlocked.

We made this decision because people in Ukraine are dealing with enough uncertainty already. A blackout, a power cut, a night in a shelter: any of these can mean hours of silence with no way to tell the people who love you that you’re okay. If Alma can take even a small part of that worry away, it’s worth giving away for free.

If you’re in Ukraine, your account is automatically recognised and Safety Net is unlocked without any payment step. If you know someone there who could use it, please pass this along.

Free for anyone who can’t afford it, anywhere

We also decided that Ukraine shouldn’t be the only place this applies. Money should never be the reason someone goes without a safety net, no matter where they live.

That’s why we already adjust Alma’s pricing to match local economies, so the cost is reasonable wherever you are. But for some people, even that won’t be enough. If you genuinely can’t afford Alma, write to us through our contact form and tell us a bit about your situation. We’ll set you up with Safety Net for free, no questions asked beyond that.

This isn’t a one-time offer or a small trial. It’s how we want Alma to work for as long as we’re running it.

Why we’re doing this

Alma exists to give people peace of mind about the people they care about, and to give vulnerable people a way to ask for help even when they can’t make a call. That mission doesn’t get smaller just because someone can’t pay for it. The whole point of a safety net is that it catches everyone, not just the people who can afford the ticket.

We’re able to do this because Alma is growing, and we’d rather put some of that growth back into the people who need it most. If that changes how you think about recommending Alma to a friend, a family member, or someone in your community who’s been putting off getting a safety net because of the cost, that would mean a lot to us.

Know someone in Ukraine, or someone who’s been holding off on a safety net because of money? Download Alma for iOS or Android, or send us a message through our contact form. We’re happy to help.
